'Food for Thought' - Orko's Restaurant initiative for the underprivileged

Kolkata, 10th December 2012: Orko's Restaurant & Lounge Bar started its first Food Charity Program as part of the Corporate Social Responsibility Program of the Orko’s restaurant. Every month, Orko's chefs personally prepare delicious dishes for children in Kolkata and serve them. The program continues at varying locations in Kolkata throughout the year.

This time, Orko’ss today gave back to the society by organizing a one of its kind exercise named ‘Food for Thought’. Over 150 underprivileged children from SOS Children Village, Kolkata were brought to Orko’ss Restaurant, to enjoy a lavish lunch. The staff of Orko’ss restaurant mingled freely with the children and served food to the children. They were all smiles as they engaged in talks with the staff of Orko’ss restaurant.

“Giving back to society, especially less fortunate children, remains one of Orko’s restaurant ( unit of sens group) top CSR activities. By continuing such noble activities, we truly are an organisation with a heart. The smiles on these less privileged children’s face speaks out loud that we are treading the right path. There is no bigger joy than to give and we feel proud that we are capable of undertaking this type of activity where we actually give back to the society. We will continue organizing such events where we can spread happiness amongst the less privileged people. ‘Food for Thought’ is our small step towards driving hunger away.” Said Mr. Sachin ( Resident Disc Jokey ) from Orko’ss.

Cooking out of great passion for authentic food, Orko's Restaurant & Lounge Bar emerged as a fine- dine experience in the heart of City Center, Salt Lake, Kolkata. The restaurant introduced authentic Mughlai cuisine with a specialty of kebab platters. There are a variety of rare, exotic and popular kebabs to choose from Bhutte ka Kebab, Dahi ka kebab, Lucknawi Galauti Kebab, Tandoori murgh, Prawn specials and of course, there are always the festival favorites. Drinks and music rock the house at the Lounge Bar.

Orko’ss Restaurant and Lounge Bar is part of the larger Sensgroup which is a mostly in the Forex and Hospitality sector in India. About SOS Children’s village, Kolkata

Established in 1977 as a result of the sincere efforts of Mr. A.L. Dias, the then Governor of West Bengal and a few committed social workers.
The Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971 saw a mass exodus of people from East Pakistan (territory of Pakistan before birth of Bangladesh) to India, particularly to West Bengal. In the chaos that followed the war, many children became homeless & orphaned. A registered Society namely SOS Children’s Villages, West Bengal, India, was then formed to provide care to these children. The then Governor of West Bengal Mr A.L. Dias was named ex-officio President, and eminent social workers, educationists, administrators and industrialists of the city as members of the Society.

On 28 Feburary 1977, the SOS Children’s Village Kolkata started functioning with 16 children from a Government run reception center of the State of West Bengal. Mrs. Joan Dias Inaugurated the Children’s Village Kolkata on 17th September 1977. The Village was dedicated by Dr. Hermann Gmeiner on 21st January 1978. The SOS Children's Village Kolkata consists of 15 family houses, Youth Facilities and a Retired Mother Home.
